PUBLIC SAFETY
Illegal Street Racing and Speeding
The Slow Down Sandy campaign, first envisioned under the Bradburn administration, should never have been treated like a light switch. Speeding and reckless driving don’t pause, and our commitment to public safety shouldn’t either.
The 2018 tragedy involving 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger, who was struck and killed by a street-racing Mustang while pushing her daughter in a stroller is haunting. That didn’t happen here but it easily could have. Turning off the Slow Down Sandy campaign was careless. Lives are at stake.
This must be a permanent, visible, and enforced initiative because protecting our neighborhoods isn’t optional. As your mayor, I’ll work directly with the Police Department to strengthen this program and launch new efforts to educate young drivers. Public safety isn’t seasonal. It’s a promise.
